Environment

Our work in the transport field provides environmental savings for our clients in terms of reduction in CO2 emissions, reduced fuel usage and reduced congestion on nearby roads. These can be fully quantified and can contribute to both Corporate Social Responsibility reports and to ISO 14001 requirements.

We encourage our clients to develop environmental policies in addition to those centred around transport and can provide help and advice to achieve this. We have included below a section from our own environmental policy:

Waste and Recycling

All waste generated by the company’s activities will be assessed for its suitability for recycling/re-use. Waste that can be recycled will be separated as required and recycled using either the local authority services or approved recycling contractors.

Paper

All paper goods procured by the company for use in its activities will contain at least 50% recycled material and suppliers will be selected on their ability to comply. Wherever possible, paper goods will be from 100% recycled material.

When providing reports to customers, the default offering will be in electronic format. Where a customer insists on a printed report, they will be requested to accept as few copies as possible. Printing of all documents will use both sides of a sheet where available.

The company’s marketing activities will involve the production of electronic versions of all marketing material. It should not be necessary to print large quantities of brochures or other materials as all such items will be downloaded from the company website, or provided direct to a customer via electronic transfer.

Energy

The company will endeavour to ensure it uses only such energy as is necessary for the conduct of the business. Office lighting and heating will be monitored to ensure that no offices are left unoccupied with lights or equipment on or heating/cooling in use. All computers and other office equipment will be turned off when not in use – only servers (e.g. web servers and customer access servers) requiring permanent operation will be left running.

Transport

The company encourages all staff to use sustainable methods of transport wherever possible or practicable. All company offices will be sited so as to provide easy access from public transport. Facilities for cycling (secure storage, showers, lockers etc.) are available at all of the company-owned offices. Staff are required to arrange carsharing as necessary to ensure that the number of single occupancy car journeys is kept to an absolute minimum. Journeys involving air travel will require a full business case and the prior approval of the Technical Director.

Teleworking

In order to reduce further the impact of staff journeys, the company encourages staff to develop teleworking where practicable and provides the advice and technology to enable staff to work from home or any location of their choice as necessary.

The company requires internal meetings to be arranged via telephone- or video- conferencing, as a first choice, in order to reduce the requirement for travel.

Carbon

The company strives to become carbon neutral over time and wherever possible the company will keep its carbon dioxide emissions to a minimum. Where direct emissions are unavoidably created through activities associated with normal company business, the effect will be calculated and a record maintained for carbon-offset purchase.
