School Travel Plans
The Department for Transport document; Travelling to School: a good practice guide published in September 2003 laid out the implementation strategy for School Travel Plans across the UK. The document stated that all schools should have a travel plan in place by March 2010.
The Rare Spark Team has worked closely with a number of Local Authorities and Schools in order to meet the target. Our school travel plan support services include:
- Travel survey form design
- Data entry, analysis and interpretation of survey responses
- Routes to school mapping
- Report production
- Travel plan devlopment
Our team are actively engaged in supporting Local Authorities and schools that are still trying to meet the target of a travel plan for every school. We are also working closely with Local Authorities and schools to review the travel plans that have already been put in place.
School travel plans need to be dynamic in their approach. With a new year group starting and another leaving ever year, school travel plans should be closely monitored in order to adapt to change effectively.
