What we do
When working with an organisation to develop a new travel plan from scratch the Rare Spark team work through three phases of a project:
- Research
- Development
- Implementation
The Research phase is essential in assessing the current situation and understanding the scale and nature of the problem. The research tasks undertaken vary from project to project but are likely to include:
- Site Surveys – to assess the existing commuter facilities
- Travel Surveys – to build up a profile of how people travel to and from the sites
- Focus Groups – to engage with individuals and expand on the travel survey results
- GIS Mapping – to identify residential and commuting patterns
Additional site specific research may be required. Guidance is always sought from the Local Authority in order to ensure that the travel plan research will meet with their required standards.
The development of the travel plan document is based on the findings of the research phase. A good travel plan will be tailored to the location, the nature of the site and the findings of the research. The travel plan document will layout the current situation and the scope of the travel plan.
The document will also include a series of travel plan targets which will be agreed by all parties. A routemap will be developed to show how the travel plan will be implemented, monitored and measured. Each of the targets will be time bound with a defined goal.
The implementation phase of a project can be handled in three different ways:
- In-house – the Rare Spark team can hand over the travel plan to be implemented by a travel plan coordinator appointed and managed by the client.
- In-house (Supported) – a travel plan coordinator can be appointed by the client with ongoing support to implement the travel plan provided by the Rare Spark team.
- Out-sourced – Rare Spark can provide, manage and support a dedicated travel plan coordinator to manage the implementation of the travel plan.
